County DMV offices to accept walk-ins beginning April 12

Starting Monday, April 12, all three Chautauqua County Department of Motor Vehicles offices will be open for walk-in transactions.

All transactions, except learner’s permit testing, escort/pilot car testing and CDL testing, can be done by walk-in service or by making an appointment online at chqgov.com/county-clerk/department-of-motor-vehicles.

In addition, vehicle registration renewals and many other transactions can still be done by mail or drop box. As each office only has one or two testing terminals, appointments are still required for learner permit testing, escort/pilot car tests and CDL testing in order to avoid backups. Appointments for testing will end at 3 p.m.

The following rules also will be in effect for the DMV offices:

¯ Chautauqua County Residents only;

¯ only the person making the transaction will be allowed in the building;

¯ no children allowed in the building;

¯ dealers may bring a maximum of three transactions at a time needing plates;

¯ dealer transactions not needing plates will be left in the drop box;

¯ all persons will wait outside of the building until instructed to enter; and

¯ all persons will social distance and wear a mask at all times.
