Illinois man charged in Thruway incident with rifle

A menacing complaint with a weapon on the New York State Thruway has led to charges for an Illinois man.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Monday, State Police received a report of a menacing complaint that occurred on Interstate 90 in the town of Dunkirk. A truck driver reported that a male passenger of a silver Ford F150 pointed what appeared to be an assault rifle at him, out the window of the truck, while traveling on the Thruway.

Responding Troopers located and stopped the F150 in the area of mile marker 468. While interviewing the occupants, a Stag Arms AR-15 loaded with a 30-round magazine, was observed in the vehicle, along with a bag containing an additional 125 live rounds.

The passenger, Tyler S. Ringwood, 23, of Charleston was taken into custody, transported, and processed. He was subsequently charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon as a loaded firearm; third-degree criminal possession of a weapon third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing.

Ringwood was arraigned in the Town of Brant Court and was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $500 cash bail or bond. The driver of the F150 was not charged in this incident.
