County’s Mobile Crisis Unit to rent space at Warwick Plaza

Chautauqua County has agreed to rent space in Warwick Plaza in the town of Ellicott for its Mental Hygiene Department.

During the county legislature meeting, lawmakers agreed to lease 1,120 square feet at 567 Fairmount Ave., from April 1 to March 31, 2024. The cost is $1,200 a month. The plaza’s owners shall be responsible for gas, electric, water and other utilities.

The resolution was not discussed during the full legislature meeting, but during committee meetings the week before, county attorney Patrick Slagle discussed the proposal. “Essentially, the Mobile Crisis Unit doesn’t have a home spot,” he said.

Instead, the staff has been bouncing between offices across the county. “Obviously it’s inconvenient for them because as space flexes, they kind of get told to go to other offices,” he said.

Slagle said there are eight individuals that are part of the Mobile Crisis Unit who will be using this new office. “It’s a good location to serve the county,” he said.

The resolution was unanimously approved.
