Man in custody after firing gun at Fredonia apartment complex
A 67-year-old man surrendered early Wednesday after a shooting incident at an apartment complex in the village of Fredonia.
Police reported they received a frantic 911 call at approximately 2:54 a.m. The caller reported that someone was firing a gun in an apartment at the Green Acres complex at 46 Wisteria Drive. Officers responded to the area and identified the apartment after hearing several gun shots.
The area was secured with the assistance of Officers of the Dunkirk Police Department, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the University Police Department.
On-scene Officers were able to establish contact with a suspect and establish communications. After a brief exchange, the male turned himself in to police without further incident. He was treated and released by the Fredonia Fire and Rescue and subsequently transported by police to a hospital in the city of Buffalo for further evaluation.
Officers remained to collect evidence and photograph the scene, and review and canvass the surrounding housing complex. The incident is still under investigation and will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
