Six fire departments responded to a garage fire early Monday at a residence in the town of Arkwright.

Forestville volunteer firefighters were alerted to the blaze at about 2:30 a.m. A responding fire chief found a detached garage fully ablaze with a nearby house exposed.

In a message posted to Facebook, the Forestville Fire Department said “radiant heat from the garage began to melt the siding on the house and cracked all the windows in the front.”

Firefighters from Cassadaga, Sheridan, Sunset Bay, East Dunkirk and Fredonia assisted at the scene early Monday. The Silver Creek Fire Department stood by at its station.

“All responding departments were with limited manpower but, as always, we all worked very well together and got the job done,” Forestville Fire Department said. “Great job to all.”

One firefighter was transported to the hospital for treatment of a medical issue.

Chautauqua County EMS, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and National Grid also responded.

The cause of the fire was not yet known.
