JAMESTOWN — Efforts to locate a missing Jamestown man brought search teams back to Jackson-Taylor Park on Thursday.

Members of Amigo Search and Rescue were at the city park around 9 a.m. with other volunteers. Based in Binghamton in Broome County, Amigo assists law enforcement agencies across New York state and parts of Pennsylvania by utilizing dogs trained in human remains detection.

A half-dozen dogs and their handlers were at the park Thursday, searching tall grass and lightly wooded areas.

“We were called in by a team that was working with police at the last time up through here,” Patti Thompson of Amigo Search and Rescue told The Post-Journal.

It’s been nearly two years since Kevin Hornburg was last seen leaving his 629 Prendergast Ave. residence. Numerous searches have been organized during that time, including one that brought dogs from Niagara Frontier Search & Rescue to Jackson-Taylor Park last month.

Thompson said the most recent search did not cover all parts of the park. “We’re covering it a little more thoroughly today,” she said. “Our goal is to help law enforcement locate missing people.”

In an average year, Thompson said Amigo Search and Rescue will assist police in up to 10 searches across the state. In addition to human remains detection, she said their dogs also help locate individuals who are lost or missing.

Jamestown police believe Hornburg, who was 56 years old when he went missing, was the victim of a crime. He is described as being 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He has a tattoo of a cross on his forearm and another tattoo between his pointer finger and thumb.

Crime Stoppers of Western New York previously offered a reward up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest or indictment of those responsible “for the disappearance and/or homicide of Kevin Hornburg,” the organization said.
