Jamestown man sentenced in gas station robbery

A Jamestown man has been sentenced for robbing a gas station.

Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt has announced that James Hayes, 33, was sentenced Wednesday morning by Judge David Foley to 5 years in state prison plus 5 years post-release supervision after being convicted of second-degree robbery, a class D felony. Hayes was arrested for first-degree robbery, a B violent felony; second-degree grand larceny, a C felony; and second-degree menacing, an a misdemeanor, on July 31, 2023 by Jamestown Police after robbing a Kwik Fill on Fluvanna Avenue and pointing an apparent handgun at the store clerk.

Hayes pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree robbery in September.
