New trustee elected in South Dayton

A new trustee has been elected in South Dayton.

Tuesday was election day in New York state for villages that have not moved their elections to November.

According to the Cattaraugus County Board of Elections, there were two seats up in South Dayton with three candidates running. Challenger Joseph Patrick Kortz received 31 votes on the Forward line, incumbent Kevin Butcher received 25 votes on the Republican line and incumbent Lynn Rupp received 21 votes on the Republican line. Butcher also received one absentee ballot vote, bringing his total to 26.

There were also three write-in ballots cast for trustee.

For South Dayton village justice, Ellsworth Textor Jr. ran unopposed on the Republican line and received 33 votes. There was one write-ballot cast for justice.

Gowanda had one uncontested race for trustee. Wanda Koch and Peter Sisti both ran on the Forward line for two trustee seats. Both Koch and Sisti are incumbent trustees.

In Ellicottville, John Burrell ran unopposed on the Republican line for mayor, while Douglas Bush and Jolie Newpher both ran on the Republican line for two trustee seats.

Other villages in Cattaraugus County that had races include Cattaraugus, Delevan, Franklinville and Little Valley.

In Chautauqua County, there were two villages with races, both uncontested.

In Westfield, Johanna Kelley and Blake Maras ran for two trustee seats. Both candidates ran on both the Democratic and Republican lines.

In Sinclairville, James Bailey and Jon Desnerck both ran for two seats open with two-year terms.

All other villages in Chautauqua County hold their elections in November.
