Six area residents face drug or weapons charges after two incidents Tuesday in Jamestown.

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, members of the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force and Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force executed a search warrant in the lower apartment of 212 Price St. with assistance from the Jamestown Police Department SWAT team. After entering the apartment, SWAT team members found three individuals inside the residence. After the residence was secured, detectives searched the residence and located 34 grams of fentanyl, $427, scales, cutting agents and packaging allegedly used in the distribution of narcotics, Alprazolam, a stolen rifle, and a shotgun.

Juan A. Gutierrez, 36, and Francisco J. Gutierrez, 35, both of Jamestown, were charged and taken to the Jamestown City Jail until they could be arraigned. Juan Gutierrez was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Francisco Gutierrez is charged with one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon for allegedly being a felon in possession of a rifle.

The Jamestown Police Department was assisted by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Dunkirk Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Chautauqua County Emergency Services Tac Meds and Jamestown Fire Department.

According to the Jamestown Police Department’s 2024 report that was recently released, 2023 saw the seizure of nearly 9,400 grams of fentanyl by police through routine patrols and targeted enforcement by the city’s drug task force. The haul was nearly double the 5,552 grams seized by JPD in 2022 and 500 grams more than all fentanyl collected by police from 2018 to 2022 in Jamestown.

A couple of hours later a traffic stop at West Sixth and Washington streets resulted in charges against four area residents after police found drugs and weapons in their vehicle.

Jamestown Police report Jamie Allen, 42, of Salamanca, Kylene Hellriegel, 39, and Melissa Edington, 35, both of Jamestown, and John Newark, 40, of Little Valley were involved in the 12:32 p.m. Tuesday incident. After the stop, a search of the vehicle yielded a quantity of numerous illegal drugs as well as weapons.

The driver, Allen, was allegedly found with 31.5 grams of methamphetamine, 5.4 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, a quantity of MDMA and suboxone.

Hellreigel was allegedly found with 27 grams of methamphetamine, 5.4 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, a quantity of MDMA and suboxone, and a rifle that she is not legally able to possess due to a prior felony conviction. Edington was allegedly found with 1.8 grams of methamphetamine, 5.4 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, a quantity of MDMA and suboxone, and a stun gun. Newark allegedly had 1.8 grams of methamphetamine, 5.4 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, a quantity of MDMA and suboxone, and a rifle that he is allegedly not legally able to possess due to a prior felony conviction.

While methamphetamine seizures were the third-leading drug seizure in 2023 in Jamestown, the city’s Metro Drug Task Force reported much lower levels of methamphetamine seized in 2023 compared to 2021 and 2022. Meth seizures were nearly 75% lower in 2023 than the previous two years. Psilocybin mushrooms, meanwhile, typically result in less than 100 total grams seized in a year, though the 2023 seizure of psilocybin mushrooms was the second-most since 2018 at 86 grams. Tuesday’s traffic stop netted 21.6 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, nearly 25% of last year’s total.

Allen was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Hellriegel was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.. Edington was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and four counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Newark was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

All were transported to the City Jail without incident where they were being held pending arraignment.
