Great Lakes study team to host virtual public meetings

CHICAGO – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes districts and eight Great Lakes state study partners will host virtual public meetings to provide updates on the Great Lakes Coastal Resiliency Study (GLCRS) and obtain the public’s feedback on the shared vision for the study.

Each meeting will feature the same core presentation on the study and our shared vision, allowing the public to attend the session that best fits their schedule. For meetings hosted by Great Lakes state partners, the states may provide a brief overview of their individual coastal program.

New York’s meeting is set for April 15 at 2 p.m. The Pennsylvania meeting is April 9 at 3 p.m. Ohio’s meeting will be held April 10 at 3 p.m.

The Army Corps of Engineers will host the final meeting itself, April 16 at 6:30 p.m.

Study information and the virtual meeting links can be found at www.lrd.usace.army.mil/glcrs.

The GLCRS watershed study is an approximately six-year, $14.4 million cost-shared study being conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with the eight Great Lakes states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

The GLCRS will complete a comprehensive assessment of the United States coast of the Great Lakes and connecting channels and identify coastal areas that could be vulnerable to future storms, flooding, extreme low or high-water levels, erosion, and accretion under a range of possible future climate scenarios.

The study will identify a range of actions to improve coastal resiliency and develop a collaborative risk-informed decision framework to support the identification and prioritization of coastal investments by federal agencies; Tribal Nation, state, and local governments; and non-governmental organizations.

Throughout the study, the team will host update meetings and coordinate with the public. The public is always encouraged to ask questions via the contact information on the GLCRS website or pose questions during the question-and-answer portion of each public meeting. To contact your state point of contact for the study, each state partners’ contact information is posted on the web site. Visit the Army Corps of Engineers website and subscribe to receive periodic email updates and future public meeting notices.
