Village Casino looks to reclaim chicken wing sales title

BEMUS POINT – Last year the Village Casino was dethroned of a long-held title.

The Village Casino, located at 1 Lakeside Drive, sold 42,520 wings in 2018, securing its position as the world’s 24-hour chicken wing sales champion. However, according to an msn.com post – that record was shattered by Weitzel’s Wings of Laramie, Wyoming, who sold 48,083 wings in 24 hours -making Weitzels Wings the new, undisputed, sales champion of the delectable little chicken limbs.

“We’re bringing the championship back home to New York,” said The Village Casino owner and operator, Andrew Carlson. “We’ve got a plan to make sure this happens.”

According to Carlson, his company has reached out to Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills for support, and they’re actively soliciting help from people who live in the Buffalo and Erie, Pa. areas for help.

The eatery’s Wing Fest is a family-friendly event held at the Bemus Point Casino each year, and is the catalyst for making, changing or holding onto the 24-hours national wing sales championship. This year’s event will run from Aug. 3, starting at 5 p.m. and conclude Aug. 4, at 5 p.m. In addition to the chicken wings sell-off competition, scheduled entertainment includes live-music. Sunday’s entertainment is heavily kid-focused and includes facepainting, Marty’s Bubblegum Machine.

The pending chicken wing faceoff has caught the eyes of the village’s mayor.

“As mayor, I intend to be the recipient of the first chicken wing cooked for the record breaking attempt,” said Jeff Molnar. “Andrew Carlson has graciously committed to donate the profits from the Wing Fest to the Bemus Point Fire Company and the Bemus Point Library. He’s a generous and dedicated member of our community.”

Carlson also spoke about the residual benefits his event brings to Bemus Point, and the timing of it, coinciding, with another village event.

“This year’s event will run at the same time as our Lake Days’ event, put on by the Bemus Point Business Association,” said Carlson. “Lake Days’ has some fun activities like a Pirate themed scavenger hunt. Plus, these events bring people to our village, and they can shop, eat and enjoy all we have to offer.”

Bemus Point Lake Days will run from Aug. 2-4. and is open to the public. For more information visit bemuspointny.org. or bemuspointcasino.com.
