Busti Fire Department to host Fall Festival this Saturday

BUSTI — The Busti Fire Department is celebrating 85 years in operation this year, and the town is looking to help them celebrate by hosting a Fall Festival this Saturday.

The Busti Fall Festival will be this Saturday from 11 a.m. until dark at the Firemen’s Grounds, 3476 Lawson Road. Dave Warren is the primary sponsor for the event, with a few other local places of business sponsoring as well, including McCandless Well Drilling, Bella Bounce Lounge, Three Sixty, U-Take the Cake, and Wiljen Woodworks. Brenda Moran, who co-chairs the festival along with Mike Voty, said that the festival will have something for everyone.

“There will be a 5,000 square foot kids zone with activities for the kids,” Moran said. “We have 85 craft vendors that will be selling various things, and 13 food and drink vendors. There’s a lot of things that will be going on.”

Kids will begin the festival with a wagon parade. Wagons will begin lining up at 10:40 a.m. and parade through the vendors, ending at the concert by Marty and the Bubblegum Machine, which is set to start at 11 a.m. There will also be two other bands playing during the festival; Whiskey Jack Band from noon until 3 p.m. and Porcelain Busdrivers from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Other activities around the festival include a Chinese Auction, a Beer Tent, pull tabs and tickets at the Fire Department, and the Jacob M Eckstrom Memorial Horse Pull, which begins at 2 p.m.

“There is something for all families, from young kids upwards,” Moran said. “There will be activities all day long.”

Included in the kids zone are 11 blow-up activities, a bounce house, five photo backdrops, a sand art activity, music, and a Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department ID and fingerprint tent. Moran said that this is the first time Busti has had this event, and that there are many exciting things to check out.

“We have 85 craft vendors, and I don’t think any other local festival has had quite that many in a while,” Moran said. “There are all kinds of things going on. Mystic Smoke Barbeque is one of the food vendors. I’m excited about the variety of vendors we have. Pretty much everyone is covered.”

The Busti Fall Festival will have free parking and admission, and totally benefit the Busti Fire Department, which Moran said responded to over 300 calls last year. She added that they help the local community along with others such as Lakewood and Falconer, and are always willing to jump up and go where they are needed.

“Come support the fire department that supports us,” Moran said. “They are always willing to drop everything and run to wherever they are needed. I’ve seen them go all over since I came here, and they always go wherever they need to to help. This is our chance to support them.”

The Busti Fall Festival will be a family friendly event, and will have something for everyone. Moran said it will be easy for those with walkers or wheelchairs to walk through the vendors, as it is not on gravel, but that it will take some time for everyone to walk through. She encouraged everyone to come out and show their support.

“It is important to come and support the fire department and I think it is important for the community to show what they think about the department,” Moran said. “There is something for everyone, kids and adults.”
