Castiglia running for Silver Creek trustee

James Castiglia

SILVER CREEK — After consulting with his wife, and hearing the encouragement of fellow Democrats and caring village residents, lifetime Silver Creek resident James “Jim” Castiglia has announced his candidacy for trustee this November.

He has accepted the endorsement and seeks the support of Silver Creek voters who care for the future and would like to see it strengthen its assets, address its weaknesses, develop village opportunities for neighborhoods, and address quality of life issues.

Castiglia currently serves on the Silver Creek planning board and chairs the newly established sidewalk upgrade initiative that is working on initiatives for building code application and use.

He has interest and time. Interest, because he grew up in Silver Creek, married his wife, Kim, and raised two children, Jim and Karrissa. In addition, he rehabbed “Grandma Kelly’s Christy Street village home into the Castiglia Homestead for 39 years.”

He is retired and now up early, serving as a Silver Creek school bus driver allowing him to see the condition of the Village daily.

He says he grew up in a “can do” family. His mom, Meg, ran a stable, trained horses and worked a grape farm. His dad, Joe, owned J.L.Castiglia construction company and MCJ construction, engineering buildings and commercial spaces throughout Western New York.

He started his career working on job sites for his father, then became an operating engineer for local 17 operating just about all construction equipment out there helping to build roads, bridges, hospitals, and buildings around Western New York.

In addition, he served as facilities manager for years with Dunkirk Aviation at the Dunkirk Airport, coordinating maintenance, meeting customers needs, test flying airplanes, and ferrying airplanes for the maintenance shop. He holds a commercial pilots license and is instrument rated so you know he is detail oriented and follows through with regularity.

While meeting with Silver Creek village residents, Castiglia said he will work on developing a plan and taking action to make positive change happen. “We all have a role to play here.” Castiglia said, “I want to help our neighbors and our village move forward to address the needs of our community one step, or sidewalk block, at a time. Let’s get started and bring back curb appeal for our community.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
