County to offer training for older, second-time parents
Chautauqua County is launching a free training program designed to support those who are stepping into the role of parenting for a second time.
The “PASTA – Parenting a Second Time Around” program is designed for grandparents, aunts, uncles, foster parents or any other guardian caring for a child again.
The PASTA program consists of a series of eight workshops specifically designed to address the unique challenges faced by second-time caregivers. These workshops provide valuable insights, strategies, and community connections to help you navigate your renewed role with confidence and support.
Sessions will begin from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 10 in the James Prendergast Fireplace Room, 509 Cherry St., Jamestown, and 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene Dunkirk Center, 60 Franklin Ave, Dunkirk, starting Sept. 19.
Led by experienced professionals in child development, legal issues and family dynamics, each session offers practical advice and emotional support. Participants will also gain access to a variety of resources designed to assist them in their caregiving roles. Light refreshments will be served.
“Parenting for a second time can be both rewarding and challenging. Our goal with the PASTA program is to provide caregivers with the tools they need to succeed,” said Tammie Shioleno, program facilitator at Chautauqua Tapestry and the Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene. “We want every caregiver to feel confident and supported as they step into this vital role.”
To register for the PASTA program, or to learn more, call Shioleno at 716-346-5431. Space is limited, so early registration is recommended.
The PASTA (Parenting a Second Time Around) program, developed by Cornell Cooperative Extension, is a nationally recognized initiative that equips second-time caregivers with the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully raise children again. The program is supported by Chautauqua Tapestry, TapestryCHQ.com, and its community partners.
