Area club plans Kentucky Derby Watch Party

Pat Cook, Barbara Kent and Ann O’Dell participated in last year’s Kentucky Derby Watch Party.

MAYVILLE — A Kentucky Derby Watch Party will be at 5:30 pm on Saturday, May 3, at the Mayville VFW Post 8647. The Mayville/Chautauqua Lions Club will host the event which will include a wide screen TV, a special Derby style buffet, and a prize for the best hat. A $20 donation at the door and a 50-50 raffle will help the Lions support a local veterans group dealing with stress related issues.

Last year, the Derby Party was a great success. Folks dressed in bright colors and cheered on their favorite horses with friends while enjoying a full buffet including chicken wings, salads, fried shrimp and cupcakes. Coffee, tea and water will be provided. This year, remember that outfit creativity is the key — so anything goes. To enhance the excitement, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages can be purchased from the bar including special Mint Juleps.

All proceeds will be donated to the Dwyer Peer Support program that helps Veterans cope with the effects of PTSD & TBI. It is a confidential program, created in 2013, that allows Veterans to meet with other Veterans in a secure comfortable atmosphere without fear of reprisal.

Come and join the club for fun and excitement watching the 151st Kentucky Derby. Wear your wide brimmed hat and embrace vibrant colors. It will be a day to just have fun.

Starting at $3.50/week.
