Dunkirk Youth, Rec Department to Wilson Legacy Fund grant
The City of Dunkirk Youth and Recreation Department is excited to announce the department is a grant recipient of the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Funds administered by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, in the youth sports category.
The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Funds were established at the Community Foundation to provide support to four areas that were important to Wilson: caregivers, community assets, design and access, and youth sports. Endowment funds, like these created to honor Mr. Wilson, are designed to grow over time and provide funding for charitable causes according to a client’s wishes.
With this grant, the Youth and Recreation Department has received $10,000 to start a sports sampling program for local children ages 5 to 17. The program focuses on softball, basketball, and soccer throughout the upcoming summer, fall, and winter.
Under Program Director, Alexis Tofil, children will have the opportunity to try different sports while learning basic fundamentals. The grant will allow the Youth and Recreation Department to reintroduce free play for those in need. Being able to reach as many kids as possible, no matter their financial status, is the top priority with this program.
