Some of the activities so far include making zebra puppets and having zebra cakes for a snack; yoga; x-changing autographs; making a watermelon craft and having a watermelon snack; reading a story about volcanoes; making USA windsocks; making tie dye shirts, making their own rosaries, and q-tip painting.
Letter “P” day brought an extra special surprise for the children. The Kindergarten classes – along with their teachers and aides – took a walking field trip to Lil’ Ginger’s Deli, where Ginger Pokoj and her crew helped every student make their very own pizza.
Upon arrival, students were greeted with purple and gold balloons, as well as a fully decorated dining area. Each child was set up with their own personal pizza crust, as well as individual portions of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni.
Kindergarten teacher Karen Nalepa commended Ginger Pokoj for how well organized and prepared she was at the event. “I can’t believe she has never hosted a field trip like this before. It all went so smoothly, I thought she did this regularly,” Nalepa said.

The owner and operator of Lil’ Ginger’s Deli, Ginger Pokoj, and her family have been longtime supporters of NCCS. Pokoj was the 2014 recipient of the “Mighty Monarch Award” for her service to NCCS.
Pokoj’s daughters, Monica and Anna, are both graduates of NCCS, in the classes of 2015 and 2017 respectively. Current NCCS Kindergarten teacher Elizabeth Privitera also taught both of the Pokoj girls in dance many years ago.
The Kindergarten students at NCCS are excited to continue their daily countdown, right up until the last day of school.
