HIGH?FIVE: Scenes from Washington Park?Block?Party

OBSERVER Photos by Gregory Bacon

Saturday children and parents alike gathered in Washington Park in Dunkirk for a block party. There were bounce houses, games, face painting, free food and more. The event, which was sponsored by some of the area churches, was in response to recent violence in the city, including the stabbing death of a 15-year-old female. Pastor Jim Bailey of the First United Methodist Church, added that the churches are going to hold weekly events all summer, Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. in Washington Park. There will be plenty of family games and activities. All local residents, especially those with young children, are invited.
