City housing agency hit by shakeup

There have been big changes in recent weeks at the Dunkirk Housing Authority. Recently, attorney Peter Clark resigned after 13 years of service on the board as legal counsel, followed shortly by Executive Director Rachel Braidich.

“The Dunkirk Housing Authority is not part of the city of Dunkirk government,” Councilman-at-large Andy Woloszyn stated at the city’s last Common Council meeting. “But it plays a vital role in our community. It owns a lot of vital land and houses many of our residents.”

Woloszyn went on to commended Clark, as well as Braidich for her short tenure with the organization.

“It’s unfortunate he had to resign. I would also like to commend former executive director Rachel Braidich for her short time being on the board. She made a lot of positive changes that I noticed,” he noted.

Woloszyn asked city attorney Richard Morrisroe, prior to the meeting, to “put to sleep any possible conflict of interest,” that he may have, or will be acting as legal representation for the group. Morrisroe offered a sincere “no” response for the record.

“I don’t really know what happened there,” Dunkirk Mayor Wilfred Rosas told the OBSERVER following a recent meeting. “Rachel reached out to me and we did have a discussion on some of the issues that were going on over there. I don’t think that the board was too happy with Rachel, but I don’t know the issues.”

According to Rosas, the city is not involved with the decision that the Housing Authority Board makes.
