Bobsiene resigns from Fredonia school board

A former Board of Education president has resigned his post at Fredonia Central Schools. Michael Bobseine, who was not present at the meeting Tuesday, submitted his letter of resignation earlier this month.

The board motioned to approve the letter as part of new business. The effective date of the resignation was Aug. 9. It thanks Bobseine “with sincere thanks and appreciation for his years of service and dedication to the district.”

Board President Brian Aldrich led the meeting. Superintendent Jeffrey Sortisio also made brief comment on the matter moving forward. “A special election date may be considered,” he said. “That is something we can consider in executive session.”

The board later went into executive session to discuss “matters pertaining to particular personnel,” according to the regular meeting agenda.

In other news, the board approved the appointment of Bernard Garrasi II to a probationary teaching position in the technology education tenure area, commencing Sept. 3, and ending on Sept. 2, 2023. “I’m real excited about coming into the classroom again and sharing some of my background,” Garrasi said at the meeting. “I’ll work on the technical literacy and try and get students up to speed.”

The board also approved the following appointments and agreements:

¯ The board approved the appointment of Jamie Polhamus to a probationary position of assistant principal, commencing September 1, 2019, and ending August 31, 2023, with a salary of $78,000 for the 2019-2020 school year.

¯ The board approved the permanent employment of Christine Slagle, secretary to the superintendent, upon successful completion of her one-year probationary appointment, effective Aug. 7.

¯ The board approved two employment contracts with confidential staff: a three-year employment contract between Fredonia Central School district and Timothy Kachelmeyer, school safety advisor, effective Sept. 3, through June 30, 2022, and a three-year employment contract between Fredonia Central School district and John Forbes, business administrator, effective July 1, through June 30, 2022.

¯ Jude Gardner and Steve Johnston were appointed volunteer assistant varsity football coaches for the fall 2019-2020 sports season, while Jennifer Aul was also appointed football cheerleading coach.

¯ The following agreements with neighboring school districts were approved: a varsity wrestling program sharing agreement between Silver Creek Central School and Fredonia Central School and a varsity wrestling program sharing agreement between Brocton Central School and Fredonia Central School.

¯ The following letters of resignation were also approved by the board: Elementary Teacher Amy Haas and Custodian John Pazderski, for the purpose of retirement.

The next regular board of education meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. in the high school library.
