Roads treacherous as lake-effect warning issued

This tractor-trailer went off the Thruway in Portland.

Roads are worsening as the sleet, rain, snow and ice have combined to make Saturday just sloppy.

The National Weather Service has issued a lake-effect snow warning beginning at 1 a.m. Sunday and lasting through 4 a.m. Monday. Up to 14 inches of snow are possible.

Besides a morning of accidents on Route 20 and Interstate 90, more accidents continued this afternoon. In Portland, heading west, a tractor-trailer driver was trapped in his vehicle after going off the road near mile marker 476. Fredonia Fire Department responded to the accident.

Icy conditions cause numerous accidents

Roads in Fredonia and throughout the area were full of slush.

In the meantime, motorists are encouraged to drive safely or to not go out if it is unnecessary.
