Remembering Dana
Forestville holds vigil for teen
FORESTVILLE — Despite a cold, driving rain, dozens attended a vigil Wednesday night for Dana Rene “Angel” Burkhart, a Forestville 16-year-old who passed away Saturday.
Blue was Dana’s favorite color, and vigil organizers asked the Forestville community to wear or display blue in her honor. The message got through, with almost everyone at the vigil clad in blue — some even carrying blue umbrellas — and at least five buildings within sight of it showing blue lights.
Scott Wise, associate pastor at Family Church of Fredonia, the church Dana attended, made a statement and led a prayer. He spoke of the “smiles, laughter, hugs and life she brought to anyone she met.”
A guitarist then played some moving, poignant songs as everyone stood with candles. A bucket with flashing blue lights was passed around to fill with donations to help Dana’s family with medical and funeral expenses.
