BROCTON — The building that once held Cave’s and other shops over the years is slated to be demolished in July.

“We have an engineer checking it out now,” Brocton Mayor Richard Frost said. “We’re hoping to have it torn down by mid-July. Other than that there are no updates on the building.”

Since 2011, 10-14 East Main St. in Brocton has been slowly collapsing. A few weeks after Cave’s Deli, 14 East Main St., closed, the back of the building fell even more. The village and the Chautauqua County Land Bank have been working on obtaining the property for almost 10 years, when this past February, the case closed after Cave’s Deli agreed to sell. Though the pandemic slowed the process down, the demolition will still happen, hopefully in July, according to Frost.

In other village board news, the Darren Manzella-Lapeira Memorial Run was approved unanimously by the board, with the condition that his parents approve of the event. The family announced last fall that they did not want to lead the race any longer, but the community may still conduct it, with approval from the couple.

The board also announced that burning of any kind is not allowed in the village and the code enforcement officer will be following up with people that have burned recently.
