‘Good turnout’ reported for drug take back day

OBSERVER Photo by Jo Ward A full box of prescription drugs awaits disposal at the Alstar Ambulance building in Dunkirk.

The national drug take back in the city experienced a steady turnout on Saturday.

Dunkirk Police Officer David Pleszewski was at the Alstar Ambulance in Dunkirk collecting many drugs no longer needed by area residents. “We’ve had good turnout,” he said. “We’re working on a third box. Throughout the year we’ve been collecting it and it’s been pretty steady with people showing up.”

Pleszewski shared that there were two cars waiting at the building before he even opened up the event, both with large bags of prescription drugs.

“It’s good to get this stuff out of houses so they don’t accidentally make it out onto the streets in some way,” Pleszewski noted.

He would also like to remind people that there are drop boxes throughout the county to drop unwanted or unneeded pills into.
