Somber ceremony held in Cassadaga

The Cassadaga American Legion Post 1280 held the annual disposable of the unserviceable American Flags in a recent ceremony. Nearly 800 unserviceable American flags were burned recently. Past legion commander Bruce Kaus led the ceremony with a history and meaning of the American flag. Legion Chaplain Diane K. Shaw gave an invocation and closing remarks for the ceremony. Ron Boyland played the bugle with a piece to honor the American flag. Legion members and friends attended the ceremony. The ceremony for the disposal of American flags is outlined in the 19th National Convention of the American Legion held in 1937, and this ceremony has been an integral part of the American Legion since that date.
