Chautauqua County ended February with some of its best COVID-19 statistics since the early months of the pandemic.

The county Health Department reported 65 new confirmed cases from Friday through Sunday — meaning the month ended with an average of about 28 new cases each day. That’s compared to December and January, where 2,008 cases and 2,882 case were recorded, respectively.

Of those confirmed Monday, 32 cases came from the Jamestown zip code, seven in Dunkirk, four in Mayville, three in Fredonia, Frewsburg and Westfield, and two each in Silver Creek, Dewittville and Lakewood.

Further, the number of county residents in the hospital who tested positive for the coronavirus has dropped dramatically since Feb. 1. At that point, the county reported 39 such hospitalizations, with that number down to six as of Monday.

On Feb. 1, there were 1,914 people in quarantine, 364 active cases and a seven-day positivity rate of 5.9%. At present there are 366 people in quarantine, 129 active cases and a seven-day positivity rate of 1.2%.

Moving past the year-end holidays, residents abiding by face masks and social distancing guidelines, and the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine have all been attributed to the decline in the stats.

To date there have been 7,590 confirmed cases, 7,324 recoveries and 137 COVID-related deaths.

In Cattaraugus County, 23 new cases were identified Sunday evening. To date there have been 4,383 total confirmed cases, 4,075 recoveries and 86 virus-related deaths.

There are currently 220 active cases, 18 hospitalizations and a seven-day positivity rate of 3.1%.

Elsewhere, there were six new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths reported in Warren County on Monday. The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced totals of 2,166 cases and 98 deaths.

Among the 2,166 total cases, 1,766 are confirmed and 400 are probables.

According to the department’s vaccine dashboard, 2,353 county residents had received both doses of the available vaccine and were fully covered as of Monday and another 2,320 had received the first dose and were partially covered.

Warren County has been listed as an area of “moderate” transmission for the last three weeks according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
