County crosses 10K cases of COVID

Chautauqua County has officially crossed the 10,000 COVID-19 mark. The health department announced 119 new confirmed cases of the virus over the weekend.

The bulk of new cases came from the Jamestown zip code (47). Eleven were reported in Dunkirk in addition to seven in Ashville; five in Bemus Point; four each in Brocton, Falconer and Lakewood; and three each in Cassadaga, Clymer, Mayville and Ripley.

With the new cases, there have been 10,007 to date within the county. There have also been 9,587 recoveries and 163 virus-related deaths. A new fatality was reported Monday.

Since Aug. 1, the county has recorded 663 new cases. Of those, 63% have involved those not vaccinated against the virus; 16% considered fully vaccinated; 5% partially vaccinated; and 17% whose vaccination status was not known.

There are currently 257 active cases, eight people with the virus in the hospital, 448 in quarantine and a seven-day positivity rate of 9.2%.

Regarding vaccinations, 60.8% of the county’s population over the age of 12 have received at least one dose to date while 55.7% are considered fully vaccinated.
