The Fredonia Central School District was placed into a brief lockdown Monday morning after an “unruly student” was found in possession of a pocket knife.

With the help of the Fredonia Police Department and other officers, the issue was resolved quickly. The school reported that no one was injured in the incident.

“Fredonia’s trained, professional staff, assisted by local law enforcement, resolved the situation within a few moments,” said school Superintendent Dr. Bradley Zilliox in a letter to parents. “The student was taken into custody and no one was hurt or injured. There is no cause for alarm at this time.”

According to police scanner reports, the student was reportedly in an altercation with Fredoina’s school safety advisor at just after 9 a.m.

“For this reason, our district and staff are trained and prepared to respond to these types of situations in a calm and deliberate manner,” Zilliox said. “We thank everyone for their professional actions and for keeping our students safe.”

Zilliox added that the school would be offering counseling services to any students or staff who may need additional support. He said out of respect for the student’s privacy, there would be no further comment, but they are taking necessary actions.

“Please be assured that we are taking all appropriate actions in response to the situation,” said Dr. Zilliox in the letter.

The entire letter from the superintendent reads:
