Don Williams Jr., president of the Dunkirk Area Labor Council of the AFL-CIO, announced a new community program adopted by its delegates at a delegates meeting earlier this year.

The program is designed to form a partnership between local unions and area organizations with the council facilitating the arrangements. The first project was recently completed at the First Ward Falcon Club in Dunkirk.

Labor was provided by IBEW Local 106 through BECC Electric while parts were donated by Service Hardware of Dunkirk through the IBEW Labor Management Group.

This project enabled much needed upgrades in the form of LED emergency lighting and safety exit lights at the club.

The council is also working on a “Labor” section in the Dunkirk Library and has plans to have a community food drive near the holidays.

The Dunkirk Area Labor Council meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the USW Hall on Fourth Street in Dunkirk. Meetings are open to the public, with the delegates being the only ones allowed to vote on issues at the meetings. Those seeking more information about the council or its community projects can call Williams at (716) 680-2549.

Starting at $3.50/week.
