SINCLAIRVILLE — The Cassadaga Valley Central School District is following a very important rule in life: safety first.
The district recently announced the hiring of Floyd Kent as its new full-time school safety adviser. Kent is a Chautauqua County native who has served in law enforcement for over 25 years.
CVCS is the second school in the area to have a school safety advisor, joining the Fredonia Central School District. Safety advisors are employed by the local school district, rather than School Resource Officers, who are technically employed by a local police department or the Sheriff’s Office.
Kent began his work with the district on Nov. 7. Kent’s office is located in the Middle/High School building, but he will be in both the Elementary and Middle/High School buildings each day. He will attend after school and extracurricular activities, as well.
“We are excited to welcome him to the Cougar family,” the district said on social media.
The majority of Kent’s career was spent working for the Jamestown Police Department. Kent retired from the City of Jamestown in 2018.
In his retirement, Kent worked as a Senior Investigator for the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office. During his years of service as a Police Officer, Officer Kent was a member Jamestown’s elite SWAT team, a Firearms Instructor, a Field Training Officer, a General Topics Instructor, a Domestic Violence Educator/Officer, an Evidence Technician, a Narcotics Investigator, and a Team Manager for the Chautauqua County Forensic Investigation Team.
Kent also attended training schools in Police Supervision, Critical Incident Management, Suicide Prevention Instruction, Narcotics Detection, Drugs that Impair, Rapid Deployment and Active Shooter Training.
“Please take a moment to introduce yourself when you see Officer Kent,” the district said on social media. “We are thrilled to have him on our team.”
