2 city drug busts in 1 day

Michael J. Borst

Dunkirk Police were busy Wednesday with two separate drugs arrests in the city of Dunkirk.

First up, a Brocton man was accused of drug possession following a traffic stop early in the morning.

According to Dunkirk Police, shortly after midnight, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle fail to signal when pulling into traffic from the curb. The vehicle was stopped for the violation and the operator was found to be Michael J. Borst, age 31, of Brocton.

On an approach to the vehicle, an officer observed what appeared to be a handgun lying on the floor next to the driver. Police said it was later determined to be a replica airgun with realistic features.

Through investigation, a quantity of methamphetamine and several items of drug paraphernalia were allegedly seized from the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody for two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and failure to signal from curb.

Borst was arraigned by Dunkirk City Court Judge Walter Drag, who set bail at $3,000 cash/$6,000 property.

Next, police were called to the Tim Horton’s at 92 Lake Shore Drive E. around 9:30 p.m. for a complaint about a suspicious female in the bathroom.

Officers arrived on scene and located Kristen E. Grant, 23, of Fredonia leaving the restaurant. As officers were speaking with Grant, two hypodermic needles were allegedly seen protruding from her back pants pocket. Police say a subsequent investigation revealed that one of the needles was loaded with cocaine and two bindles of heroin were found in Grant’s sock.

Officers also located Julie A. Pierce, 36, of Fredonia in a nearby vehicle that belonged to Grant.

After speaking with Pierce, it was discovered that she was in alleged possession of a hypodermic needle and a quantity of powder cocaine.
