Shortly before 3 p.m. on Thursday, a tractor trailer heading west on Route 83 was unable to stop at the intersection of Routes 83 and 60 in the town of Pomfret. The trailer, driven by Robert S. Johnson, was hauling corn. Johnson claims he lost his brakes. His truck damaged a portion of the former Great Lakes Specialties building on Route 60 before colliding with the trees that border Canadaway Creek. New York State Police and Fredonia Fire & Rescue responded to the accident. Johnson was transported by ambulance to Brooks Memorial Hospital with knee and head pain, according to state police on the scene. Tickets were issued for no log book and inadequate brakes. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
