Fire crews battle a garage fire Aug. 2 near Fredonia.

Several fire departments helped douse a large garage that was destroyed in a fire Friday night off Route 5 near Berry Road.

The blaze at 9890 North Road was reported at 11:07 p.m. County dispatch told fire officials that an explosion was heard around the same time in the area.

Crews from Brocton, Portland, Fredonia, East Dunkirk, West Dunkirk, Stockton and Westfield responded, as did the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Police Team.

Firefighters were on scene until about 2 a.m. The cause of the blaze has not been announced.
