CASSADAGA — While it might be cold outside this weekend, Cassadaga has plenty of events scheduled for those willing to brave the elements.

The Cassadaga Winter Festival will take place this weekend in the village, from early Saturday morning through Sunday evening. The festival is hosted by the Citizens for a Better Cassadaga.

The first event of the weekend is the Frozen 50K, sponsored by Wilson Endurance Sports, which commences at 8 a.m. from the Cassadaga Fire Hall at 22 Mill St. Participants can choose to do one lap of the course, which amounts to a 5K, or continue all the way up to 10 laps for a 50K. The pre-registration fee varies from $13 to $25. Proceeds go to the Chautauqua County Fire Police and the Cassadaga Food Pantry. Registration/check in begins at 7 a.m., or you can register online at coachmarkwilson.com.

Also on Saturday morning, a snow sculpture contest begins at 11 a.m. at Cassadaga Beach on Park Avenue.

Judging will commence at 12:30 p.m., with prizes provided by the Cassadaga Lakes Association.

On Sunday, the Cassadaga Winter Festival will hold sledding at the Cassadaga Country Club from 1-3 p.m.

Next on the list of activities on Saturday is “Fun on the Beach” from noon until 2 p.m. Adirondack chairs will be available to sit around a campfire, make s’mores, play tetherball or play hockey on the basketball court. Music will be provided by DJ Joe Gould, while chili and hot chocolate will be provided by Park Church.

Saturday at 1 p.m. is the Ice Sccream Polar Dip, sponsored by the Red House. There is a $20 entry fee and all proceeds go toward the Cassadaga Lakes Association sponsored kayak launch. Register in person or online at coachmarkwilson.com.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, the Cassadaga Branch Library at 18 Maple Ave. is hosting “Hedgehog at the Library.” There will be a real live hedgehog, along with a story and crafts at the library in what the village hopes will be “fun and informative for kids and adults.”

The Untouchables will be performing a free concert for the public on Saturday night at the Cassadaga Legion Post 1280 at 228 Maple Ave. from 7-10 p.m. The band has been entertaining for three decades with a blend of rhythm and blues, oldies rock and roll, classic soul and other musical styles. Everyone is invited to this free event. The band is sponsored by the Village of Cassadaga and American Legion Post 1280. Bubba’s Food Wagon will be in the parking lot beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

On Sunday, there will be sledding at the Cassadaga Country Club from 1 to 3 p.m. While the sleds themselves will be up to guests to bring to the big hill, cookies will be provided by the Cassadaga Library and hot chocolate will be provided by the Cassadaga Country Club.

Also on Sunday is the Full Moon Cross Country Skiing/Snowshoeing event. Meet at Cassadaga Lakes Nature Park on 8115-8119 Route 60 at 5:15 p.m. There will be a guided tour beginning at 5:30 p.m. that will last from 60 to 90 minutes, depending if guests choose a short or long tour.
