SILVER CREEK — The second edition of Silver Creek’s Music in the Park series is Tuesday, which will serve as First Responders Night in the village. Underground Stampede will perform at the village ballpark from 6 to 9 p.m.

“We’d like everyone to come down and support and honor the Silver Creek Fire Department and all the mutual aid companies around the area that will come and bring their equipment,” Village Trustee Marv Cummings said.

Mayor Jeff Hornburg stated at a recent meeting of the Village Board that the Silver Creek Fire Department had 36 Emergency Medical Services calls in the month of May.

Hornburg also noted that the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department received a notable amount of calls, specifically in the Town of Hanover.

“It’s amazing how many calls they get in the Town of Hanover,” Hornburg said. Between the Town of Hanover and the Village of Silver Creek, approximately 450 incidents have occurred in the most recent call log Hornburg reviewed.

Also at the recent meeting, the village tabled a bid from West Herr Ford for a 2023 Ford F-250 pickup truck for the village’s water and sewer department. The amount was $61,796.23, and it was the only bid the village received. The village will check with the water and sewer department to confirm the truck will meet all of the department’s needs before accepting the bid.

Also related to the village’s streets, Hornburg said the village will likely do the bulk of its paving streets during the month of August. Equipment is shared with the Town of Hanover, and will likely be made available in August.

Hornburg also commended the village’s new part-time code enforcement team of Rich Vasile, Vince Gugliuzza, and John Kennedy, who also hold the same positions with the Town of Hanover.

“I think they are going to be a good fit for the village until we decide what we’re going to do, if we want to do anything on our own,” Hornburg said.

The village’s next Mobile Food Pantry event, sponsored by the Village of Silver Creek and FeedMore WNY, will be June 27 at 11 a.m. at the Village Municipal Building parking lot. Volunteers are welcomed at 10 a.m.

The next regular Village Board meeting set for July 3 was canceled due to Independence Day festivities in the village. The Village Board will meet next on July 17.

Starting at $3.50/week.
