Lily Dale finds itself in court again
The Lily Dale Assembly finds itself the subject of a lawsuit from a contractor alleging that the spiritualist assembly owes more than $142,000 in unpaid bills.
Dextra Consulting Inc. of Fredonia recently filed a lawsuit in state Supreme Court in Mayville alleging it is owed for invoices dating back to September 2022. In total the consulting company states it is owed $142,904, and is asking the court to award at least the money the company says it is owed as well as attorneys fees, court costs and possibly additional damages.
According to the court filing, Dextra performed consulting services for Lily Dale from 2012 through July 2023 with work varying depending on Lily Dale’s needs. For many years Dextra provided information technology services before adding corporate accounting services at Lily Dale’s request starting in 2021, according to the lawsuit. Services included reviewing and rebuilding incomplete financial records for 2020-21, creating a financial system for the spiritualist assembly to stay current with its accounting, operations, finances and financial reporting and then training Lily Dale staff.
Dextra and Lily Dale reached an agreement for a payment plan in 2022 for money the Fredonia company was owed, according to the court filing, before the payments allegedly stopped in July 2023.
“On July 26, 2023, Lily Dale advised Dextra that it would no longer need Dextra’s services and discontinued its long-standing business relationship with Dextra,” the filing states. “Beginning in July 2023, Lily Dale ceased making payments to Dextra.”
A response has yet to be filed by Lily Dale. The suit was filed in state Supreme Court on Monday.
