Mayville Tim Hortons construction may begin soon

MAYVILLE – A new Tim Hortons in the village is moving closer to begin construction.

During the April Chautauqua Town Board meeting, officials unanimously agreed to sell some property between the Chautauqua Municipal Building and 7 West Chautauqua St., Mayville, including the large hill, to developers David and Gina Kron for $5,000.

David Kron appeared at the March town board meeting and said he wanted to purchase some additional property in order to make it easier for traffic to pull in and out of the future Tim Hortons. Town leaders said if they were going to sell the property they wanted it to include the hill because it would be difficult for the town to maintain without property below it.

Both sides agreed to meet privately to discuss options, which led to the resolution at the April town board meeting.

The Krons purchased the vacant 7 West Chautauqua St. property in September from the village of Mayville. Originally at that spot was the former Mayville Diner. The diner was destroyed in an arson fire in December, 2019.

After the fire, the county took possession of the property, due to taxes not being paid. At the same time, the village cleaned up the property and was able to take possession of the land with the agreement that the land would be sold to cover the village’s cost of the clean up.

Not counting the future Mayville site, the Krons own and operate five Tim Hortons restaurants – one in Fredonia, two in Dunkirk, one in Cassadaga and one in Westfield. The Westfield Tim Hortons opened last year.

At the Mayville Village Board meeting, which took place the day before the Chautauqua Town Board sold the property, it was announced that the Mayville Tim Hortons is expected to look similar to the one in Westfield, with seating inside and a drive through.

Village officials said the land transaction was the last step needed for construction to begin.

David Kron said previously he wants to start construction this spring, depending on the availability of contractors.
