Silver Creek evaluates bids for trash pickup

SILVER CREEK — At a recent meeting of the Silver Creek Village Board, bids were opened from two companies seeking to handle garbage and recycling disposal in the Village. Representatives from both companies were in attendance at the meeting.

The first bid opened was from Casella Waste Systems, which was for $210,506 in the first year of the five-year agreement, with an increase each year in line with the consumer price index. Casella Waste Systems also submitted an alternate bid to eliminate the use of Village trash bags to instead use toters for garbage and recycling, at a first-year price of $183,755, with an increase each year in line with the consumer price index.

The second company to bid was All Out Disposal, which submitted a bid for $152,000 in the first year of the contract, with a 4% increase in each of the four following years.

The bids were tabled to allow for review by the Village Board and Village Attorney. The Board also later authorized the Village Clerk to advertise for bids on Village Trash Bags.

Also at the recent meeting, the annual Children’s Fair through the Silver Creek Kiwanis Club was approved to be held at the Village Ball Park on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., with setup the day prior.

The next mobile food pantry event is Tuesday, May 28, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Village Municipal Parking Lot.

The Village will also continue to evaluate future uses for the former Revere Inn site. The Village Planning Board and the Garden Club have been in contact with plans to be presented at a future meeting.

Additionally, a donation of $250 from the Michael Boedo Community Foundation was accepted to apply to the Village’s Youth Recreation Program.
