Ball Hill Project ends up with 26 towers
A wind farm in the eastern portion of Chautauqua County has slightly fewer turbines than originally planned and will pay more money.
During the county Industrial Development Agency meeting, Rich Dixon said the Ball Hill Wind Energy Wind Project was originally scheduled to have 29 turbines. In the end it ended up having 26 towers at 107.5 megawatts.
Because of the change, Dixon said the amount owed has changed as well. “They owe us more money now for this for the PILOT (Payment In Lieu Of Taxes). They’ve agreed to it, no problem. It’s the same rate and everything, so instead of 100 megawatts they’ll be paying on 107.5. So less towers, more money for the taxing jurisdictions, so it’s all good,” he said.
The Ball Hill Wind Project was constructed in the towns of Villenova and Hanover and covers around 9,715 acres.
It was the first turbine project approved by the county IDA but also the last one constructed.
The county IDA unanimously approved the changes in the agreement with Ball Hill Wind Energy, LLC. Ball Hill Wind is a subsidiary of Northland Power Inc.
