Third Street repaving imminent in city
Paving on Dunkirk’s Third Street will start “within a week or so,” and will close the road, according to city Department of Public Works Director Randy Woodbury.
Councilman James Stoyle asked him when it would start at Tuesday’s Common Council meeting. Councilwoman Nancy Nichols followed up with a question about if the street would be totally shut down during the paving project.
“There will be some days it will be shut down,” Woodbury responded. “The contractor knows how to do that and still route people. We will keep our first responders alerted as to alternate routes — we’ve done that before, so it shouldn’t be a problem.”
Woodbury said he and Mayor Kate Wdowiasz plan to do a press release when they know exact dates and times the street will get closed.
Woodbury concluded, “It’s the worst street in the city and we’re going to turn it into one of the best.”
Third Street runs from Main to Robin streets, next to the elevated train tracks. The road is currently in rough shape, pockmarked by potholes and patches.
