HANOVER — Any fears the Town of Hanover had regarding the timeline for its Routes 5 and 20 waterline project to remain eligible for the funding it secured were recently put to rest.
The town has received its Rural Development funding of approximately $393,000 pertaining to the Routes 5 and 20 waterline project. With that funding now approved, the water line project is fully funded and additional funds will not need to be secured by the Town. A meeting will be held in early December with members of the Town Board and the individuals involved with the water line replacement project to provide an update on the progress of the project.
The Town is still in the process of evaluating its development capabilities along Routes 5 and 20. The Town is studying the market to determine if a hotel or additional housing would be feasible for the area. Additionally, the Town is evaluating its water and sewer system capabilities, of which the sewer system is currently at approximately 80% capacity. More information about what is feasible in the area will be made available in the coming weeks.
The Town Board approved changes to the alignment of the water line on Old Main Road between Mott Road and Routes 5 and 20 from the north side of Old Main Road to the south side of the street. The cost for the change is $13,786, which is budgeted in the contract of the water line replacement project through contingency costs. The efforts were done to avoid connecting the water line near a gas line.
The Town also approved the purchase of Streametric Controls for the Forestville Water Tower to automate its pump system. The purchase was deemed an emergency expenditure at a total cost of $11,210, of which $8,416.57 is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, with $2,793.43 from the Forestville Water District.
The next meeting of the Hanover Town Board is Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Hanover Town Hall and Court. The second meeting of the month of December has been moved to Friday, Dec. 27 at 3 p.m. for bookkeeping purposes to close out the 2024 calendar year.
