The town of Pomfret has repaired a cemetery fence partially destroyed by a truck.
Part of the Forest Hill Cemetery fence on Newton Street in Fredonia was smashed by a wayward tractor trailer in July. The truck had just left nearby Wavepoint Warehousing (the former site of Carriage House and Red Wing).
The truck strike twisted up several feet of the old iron fence, and the damaged fencing had to get removed. Fortunately, the truck barely missed hitting any gravestones.

Town of Pomfret Highway Department workers repaired the fence earlier this week, said Jude Gardner, town highway superintendent.
The town did not pay for the repair, he said. The insurance policy of the trucker’s company covered it.
The Forest Hill fencing went in just days after the completion of a new stone front wall for the adjacent Pioneer Cemetery.
Town workers are also currently doing their annual spring cleanup effort across all of Pomfret’s cemeteries.
