Fredonia PBA calls off July picnic

The Fredonia Police Benevolent Association has cancelled its annual July picnic for this year.

The news came in a social media post by the Fredonia PBA Sunday afternoon.

“The current members had a meeting and deliberated to either significantly raise prices or cancel the event,” according to the post. “The vote was made and unfortunately the picnic will have to be cancelled this year.”

The post continued that the PBA understands “it will upset people that look forward to the event. But, due to the rising costs, the ticket price would have had to be $60-plus, to break even. The union found this would be insulting to the community.”

The post added that the PBA will begin planning for 2026, and is “open to new options.”

The Fredonia PBA has held a summer fundraising event for decades. A 2022 article detailed how Fredonia Police Officer Brittany Lancaster was selected that year for the annual promotional photo — as her grandfather had been in 1957, when the event was a formal ball.

Starting at $3.50/week.
