Area readies for a blast on the Fourth of July

Looking forward to the Fourth of July weekend this weekend, a few local municipalities are set to host events throughout the day.
In the village of Lakewood, the festivities begin in the morning with the 2025 Firecracker Run. Located at Lakewood Beach, at Richard O. Hartley Park, 2 West Terrace Ave., and hosted by the Lakewood YMCA, the run gives options of a 10K, or a two mile run or walk. Check in is from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. with the race beginning at 9 a.m. More information can be found at jamestownareaymca.org, and there will also be a Kid’s Corner Race for ages two to 12 beginning at 9:30 a.m. and a kids money hunt at Hartley Park.
Other events take up the rest of the holiday in Lakewood.
“This event includes crafts, gifts, food, refreshments, entertainment and more from 12 p.m. until dusk,” Krysten Yager, Lakewood Deputy Village Clerk said. “Businesses along Chautauqua Avenue may also participate with sidewalk sales, displays, entertainment, and food specials.”
Fire House Bounce House will be providing bounce houses for the day at Hartley Park, and Ion Sky will be playing from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., to be followed by a fireworks display by Zambelli Fireworks.
The village of Mayville and the town of Chautauqua are coming together for a Fourth of July parade and other events throughout the day on Friday. Parade registration begins at 8 a.m. Friday on the courthouse lawn, and the judging of the Fire Apparatus and Antique or Classic cars begins at 9 a.m. in the Chautauqua Lake Central School parking lot.
Routes 394 and 430 will be closed beginning at 9:30 a.m. for the parade that begins at 10 a.m. with the theme, “Christmas in July 2025”. The reviewing stand will be done by the Mayville Depot with Matt Warren as the MC, Pastor Jeff Mitchener doing the invocation, the national anthem being sung by Pat Cook and sound system by Zack Rocker Music.
Other festivities begin at noon at Lakeside Park, including live music, food, games, raffles, face painting and family fun. There will also be a petting zoo by Sun-Dance-Kids Farm. Entertainment includes performances by Osborne Nash, magic by Mike Baron and Annie, entertainment by the UP Team, music by One Boomer, and music by the Escape Goats. A grand prize drawing will be in the committee tent at 9:30 p.m. and the fireworks display by Skylighters Fireworks begins at 10 p.m. The event is free with free parking.
In the city of Dunkirk, the Fourth of July Celebration at Memorial Park begins on the evening of July 3 with vendors and classic rock allstars beginning at 5 p.m. and “Invincible: Ohio’s Premier Pat Benatar Tribute” at 7:15 p.m. On Friday, vendors open at 11 a.m. with entertainment throughout the day including Party McFly, Furious George, and Two For Flinching. The fireworks display by Starfire Corporation begins at 9:30 p.m., with a rain date of July 5. Also on July 5 is the Marauder Trotter Run/Walk 5K in Wright Park at 9 a.m. More information can be found at cityofdunkirk.com.
In the village of Findley Lake, town supervisor Rebecca Brumagin said there is “a lot going on” for Friday’s holiday. A Chicken barbeque begins at noon and a book signing will be held at the Waterwheel Overlook Building from 11 a.m. to noon. The books are “Swanee’s Sentimental Journey” by Jennifer Packard and the “History of Steamboats on Findley Lake” by John Swartz. The village’s Duck Race begins at 12:30 p.m. with a boat parade at 2 p.m. Flares begin at 9:30 p.m. Friday night and the fireworks display is at 10 p.m.
