Boil-order continues through weekend in village

OBSERVER Photo by M.J. Stafford Dozens of vehicles lined up at Fredonia Fire Department around noon as an emergency water distribution began, the first of two Thursday. Cars backed up on Main Street and a fireman had to direct traffic.

Boil, boil, toil and trouble.

That is not meant to be a mistaken Shakespeare reference. That is, however, what users of Fredonia water should expect to continue doing through the weekend.

The village provided an update on its latest boil-water crisis Thursday morning. “At this point, residents and businesses should plan for the boil water order to remain in effect through the weekend,” according to the report from the village Office of Emergency Management. “We understand this poses a disruption, and we appreciate your continued patience and cooperation.”

The release states that “The Fredonia Water Treatment Plant continues to work closely with the Department of Health on an hourly basis to address the ongoing issue. At this time, crews are actively working to stabilize and reduce turbidity levels within the plant. This is a critical step toward restoring water quality to a safe and acceptable level.

“Once turbidity levels are consistently within regulatory limits, the required testing process will begin to verify that the water is safe for consumption. Only after the successful completion of this testing will the current boil water order be lifted.”

The next public update on the boil order is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, the village press release states.

The release also reminded Fredonians of water distribution events. One took place Wednesday night with another on two Thursday at the Fredonia Fire Department, 80 W Main Street, Fredonia. Proof of residency was required at the time of pickup.

Starting at $3.50/week.
