Boil order continues; water distribution today

There’s been some minor progress regarding the Fredonia water system, but a boil order will remain in effect through at least Wednesday.

In a report issued on the Fredonia Office of Emergency Management Facebook page, officials noted that turbidity levels in the system continue to trend downward, “which is a positive sign — however, they are still too high for regulatory testing to begin.”

Two more water distribution rounds will take place Monday in the village of Fredonia due to the ongoing boil-water order that was put in place Tuesday.

The drive-through distributions will take place from noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fredonia Fire Department at 80 W. Main St. Officials ask those coming to enter via Water Street and Canadaway Street.

Water will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents are asked to remain in their vehicles during distribution. Volunteers will load water directly into vehicles to ensure efficiency and safety.

To help make sure resources are distributed fairly, each vehicle will be allowed to pass through the line only once. Any residents in need of additional water are encouraged to contact the Fredonia Fire Department at 716-672-2125 to make alternative arrangements.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we continue working to address the water situation,” said Joshua Myers (Fredonia Emergency Manger and Fire Chief). “We’re committed to making sure every household has access to clean water while the boil water order remains in effect.”

The boil water order issued last week by the Chautauqua County Health Department pinned “a treatment technique violation at the water treatment plant” as the cause. The violation “resulted in high turbidity such that water entering the distribution system was not adequately treated.”

Myers reported Friday that 2,200 cases of water were sent out during three rounds of distribution.

Starting at $3.50/week.
