Forestville ready to host fire convention

FORESTVILLE — More than two dozen fire departments will converge in Forestville later this summer for the annual Southwestern Association of Volunteer Fireman’s Convention. The event begins setting up Wednesday with events being held Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 2.
Live music will be at The American Legion in town from Thursday through Saturday. There will also be a beer tent, along with food and merchandise vendors. The event is open to the public. Entry to the tent for live music is $5.
Thursday, Nerds Gone Wild will be performing. Friday night features Two Towns, while Furious George finishes out the weekend on Saturday night. Each night, bands will play from 7 to 10 p.m., while the beer tent opens at 5 and will stay open until 11 p.m.
There will also be two parades during the convention, including the Firefighter Comic Parade at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, along with a Grand Parade at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Guests are strongly encouraged to come show support to the fine men and women from Fire Departments from Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany Counties.
Among the fire departments set to be represented include: Belmont, Bolivar, Chautauqua, Cold Spring, Delevan, Doyle, East Town of Dunkirk, Elma, Farnham, Forestville, Franklinville, Gowanda, Highland, Lake Erie Beach, Machias, North Evans, Portland, Scranton, Silver Creek, South Dayton, Sunset Bay, Wellsville, West Valley, Westfield, Windom, and Woodlawn.
