Pomfret and village of Fredonia may share water tank

Fredonia should have an answer on sharing a new water tank with Pomfret by September, Pomfret Town Supervisor Dan Pacos said last week.

Pacos told the Pomfret Town Board he met recently with Fredonia village officials “and discussed shared services.” Regarding a team-up with the town on a water tank, “they told us they anticipate knowing by September.”

Pacos wanted to get the administrative ball rolling on the tank, so he directed Eric Wies of CPL, the town’s “engineer of record,” to write the bidding call for a tank that would serve Pomfret only. However, Wies is to add an alternate bid for a tank serving both Pomfret and Fredonia. The supervisor also wants Wies to estimate a timeline for getting the tank out to bid and constructed.

Pacos envisions the tank as a key to getting Fredonia into position for acquiring North County Water District water. Pomfret is using water from the district, which Pacos chairs, for upcoming projects.

Those projects include North End and Van Buren water district construction work. “Oddly, we’ve been getting many questions about that this week,” Pacos cracked — a wry reference to the latest boil-water crisis in Fredonia. The village has an independent water system which supplies (or currently, doesn’t supply) portions of the town not served by the North County Water District.

Pacos said he has heard little recently on the North End project. However, he offered positive news on the Van Buren work, stating that “we finally got the go-ahead…to schedule pre-construction meetings. Hopefully, shortly, we’ll see shovels in the ground.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
