Robert Steven "Bob" Miller

Robert Steven “Bob” Miller, age 81, of North East, PA and Anna Maria, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 26, 2018, surrounded by his family. Bob was born in McKees Rocks, on September 11, 1936, a son of the late Henry C. and Josephine (Gabor) Miller.

Bob was a baker by trade and the co-founder of Better Baked Foods, with facilities in North East and Erie, PA, and Westfield, NY. He served as Chairman of the Board for many years, retiring in 2017 after over 50 years in the pizza industry.

Both an entrepreneur and philanthropist, throughout his career Bob maintained a great interest in the growth, development and needs of the people and the communities in which he lived and worked. He was a longtime benefactor of the North East Campus of Mercyhurst University, the Heritage Foundation, Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation, the North East Community Foundation, and the Rotary Foundation.

Bob was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jennifer, in 1976, and his parents, Henry C. Miller and Josephine (Gabor) Miller. He is survived by his wife, Janet L. (Nelson Croscut) Miller, whom he married on June 16, 1972; their seven children Katherine Miller (Robert Heinzman) of Lee, MA; Michele Giesen (Robert) and Mark Miller of Longmont, CO; Christopher Miller (Linda), Julie Griffith, and Jeff CroscutMiller (Karen) of North East, PA and Rebecca Gordon (Christopher) of Avon Lake, OH. Bob is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Maura O’Connor, Harrison and Tyler Giesen, Shaina Wolf (Nicholas), Hannah Miller, Nicholas Miller, Jonathon, Mathew and Cynthia Griffith, Justin, Nathan and Troy Croscut-Miller and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law H. Wayne and Lucille Miller of Coraopolis, PA. Bobwill be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Ridge Building on the Mercyhurst North East Campus, 16 W Division St, North East, PA 16428. A funeral service will be held there on Friday at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at the Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, NY. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the William D Elkin Funeral Home in North East, PA.
