WESTFIELD — Ronald B. Hess, Sr., age 83, of Bar-celona, passed away, Tues-day, May 1, 2018 at Absolut Care of Westfield surrounded by his family, fol-lowing a brief illness.Ron was born on September 8, 1934 in Westfield, NY, a son of the late Herbert H. and Mae M.(Rothwell) Hess.He married Judith W. Whitwood on Dec. 2, 1977 in Portland, NY; Judy preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 2014.A Westfield area resident all his life, Ron was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War and had worked for a short time at Ajax Flexible Couplings prior to joining the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office in 1957 where he retired from in 1985. He then worked for the US Postal service as a rural letter carrier from1984 until 1998 on Rural Route No. 2 of the Westfield Post Office. He enjoyed golfing, taking care of his home, as well as remodeling and taking care of his apartments and property.Mr. Hess was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 118, the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion, the Wm. P Jackway Post 6764 VFW, and a former member of the Masonic Lodge all in Westfield.He was a life member of the Chautauqua County Deputy Sheriff’s Assoc.Survivors include his son Ronald Hess, Jr. and his sons Matthew and Mitchell, his step-daughter Donalyn (Jeffrey) Franze and her children, who affectionatly called him “Bomp”, Kyle (Jennifer) Franze, Jacquelyn (Shane) Bruner and Todd (Brittany) Franze. He is further survived by his Step-great grandchildren, Luke Franze, Scarlett and Elizabeth Bruner and Lincoln Franze. Also surviving are his two sisters, Janice Paulus of Ashville, NY and Linda Stumpf of Woodbridge, VA as well as several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents and his wife, Judith, Ron was preceded in death by his two brothers, Danieland Robert Hess.In keeping with Ron’s wishes, no calling hours will be observed and all services will be private.Memorial may be made to the Fire Department of Westfield, Memorial Fund, 23 Elm St., Westfeild, NY 14787 or to Hospice of Chautauqua County, 20 West Fairmont Avenue, Lakewood, NY 14750.Funeral arrangemnts have been entrusted to the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, NY 14787.Log on to our website: masonfuneral.com to send the Hess family a message of sympathy, to light a Memorial Candle or for
